Strong Earthquake Hits Southeastern Alaska

Washington, DC -- The US Geological Survey reports a strong earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter Scale hit southeastern Alaska yesterday. The quake occurred about 6:00 am yesterday about 85 miles west of Juneau.
There were quake two aftershocks, one measuring 4.0 about 85 miles southwest of Haines, and the other measuring 4.6 about 80 miles northwest of Sitka.
The quake and aftershocks were felt in Juneau and there has been some minor damage reported from some locations. No related injuries have been reported. FEMA's regional office in Bothell, Washington (Region X) is monitoring the situation.
