Severe Weather Recovery Update

Washington, DC -- Damage assessments and recovery operations from the nation's latest severe weather are underway. Here is the latest from the impacted states:

Kentucky

* Residents continue to recover from the severe weather of January 3.

* Hardest hit areas include parts of Crittenden, Daviess and Webster counties with wind damage and flooding reported. Damage is mostly restricted to an area about a half a mile wide by one mile long in the southern portions of Owensboro, Daviess County.

* Approximately 5,000 households in Owensboro remain without power. Full restoration is expected to take up to five days.

* State officials report one fatality associated with the storm. More than 25 people have been injured, none critically.

* The American Red Cross is operating one shelter in Owensboro, which housed about 90 people last night.

* The Governor declared a State of Emergency and the State's Emergency Operations Center was activated Monday at 8 p.m. Local damage assessments are underway.

Arkansas

* No fatalities or injuries have been reported at this time. Affected counties include, Clay, Baxter, Fulton, Johnson, Sharp, Jackson, Logan, Pope, Newton, Searcy, Marion, Scott and Polk.

Indiana

* The State Emergency Management Agency reports two mobile homes were destroyed by straight-line winds in Washington County. Moderate flooding was reported in Maringo in Crawford County.

* One person was reported injured.

* Crawford County flooding appears to be the biggest problem where 5.25 inches of rain fell during the course of the storm. The state reports 20 homes were affected, 10 homes with minor damage and two homes with major damage. Floodwaters are receding at this time.

* The state is sending an assessment team to Crawford County to begin damage estimates.

Mississippi

* The state reported damage in two counties with one confirmed tornado touchdown. No critical situations are being reported.

* No fatalities or injuries were reported. State damage assessments are underway.

Missouri

* Cape Girardeau County sustained the most damage in Monday's storms. The American Red Cross reports five single-family homes with minor damage, five mobile homes destroyed and one mobile home with major damage.
