SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Beginning Friday, June 22, the joint Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Aberdeen will change its hours to 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

Representatives with the state and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are at the DRC to assist those who were impacted by the May 4 -5 severe storms, floods, and tornadoes. DRC staff can answer questions about disaster assistance, disaster loan applications, and other assistance programs. 

The Aberdeen DRC is located at the Washington Street Gym, 401 N. Washington Street, in Aberdeen.

People affected by the early May storms are encouraged to apply for federal assistance by:

The phone lines are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. People are encouraged to register with FEMA prior to visiting a DRC.

People can also access state assistance by calling South Dakota’s help line at 1-866-737-8998 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. -1 p.m. on Saturdays, until further notice. This number can also be used to request face-to-face assistance with the disaster aid registration process.

The U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) also has Customer Service Representatives at the DRC. They are available to assist with disaster loan applications. SBA offers low-interest disaster loans to homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes and private non-profit organizations. These loans are to repair or replace homes, businesses and personal property damaged by the severe storms, floods and tornadoes.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
