EAGLE PASS, Texas -- Those affected by the April 21-24 severe storms and tornadoes have only two weeks left to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for possible state and federal disaster assistance. The deadline to apply for assistance is July 2, 2007.
"Anyone who lives anywhere in the designated counties and has been affected by these storms should apply for aid before the deadline," Federal Coordinating Officer Tony Russell said.
Recovery officials urge residents and business owners with disaster-related damage in the five-county designated disaster areas to call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585. Lines are open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Victims may also register online at www.fema.gov.
For those who may still have disaster assistance questions, help remains just a phone call away. Multilingual operators at the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA's) Helpline 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 are available to answer disaster aid questions and assist applicants, who may want to check on the status of their application. After registering, you can also check the status of the application online at www.fema.gov.
The registration period and the deadline apply to the disaster declaration that enabled residents and business owners in Denton, Maverick, Moore, Swisher and Atascosa Counties to register for federal/state recovery aid.
FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
