ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Disaster Recovery Center in Mamaroneck (DRC) will convert to a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Loan Outreach Center on Monday, June 11.

The Disaster Recovery Center, located at the Town Center Senior Nutrition Community Center, 740 West Boston Post Road in Mamaroneck, is open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., until this Saturday, June 9.  Once it reopens on Monday, June 11 as an SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Center, the hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The DRC was opened by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State Emergency Management Office (SEMO) to help those affected by the April nor'easter and subsequent flooding, and has had more than 1,000 visitors already. The SBA Loan Outreach Center will focus on helping people fill out applications for low-interest disaster loans from the SBA.

Low-interest disaster loans from the U. S. Small Business Administration, which have no closing costs or other fees, are the primary source of financial aid to residents who need to repair or rebuild and to businesses with physical damage or economic losses.  The loans also can be used for replacement of essential personal property, transportation, or the rental of equipment to help with recovery. Homeowners and renters who fill out the applications may become eligible for FEMA grants beyond those for repairs and alternate housing. However, if asked to fill out an SBA loan application, they must fill out and return the application to be considered for some of the additional grants.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
