WICHITA, Kan. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced expansion of the availability of Individual Assistance programs to assist Riley County residents recover from damage during the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding May 4-18.

FEMA and the Kansas Division of Emergency Management (KDEM) have been working together to help Kansans since the initial presidential disaster declaration was issued.

Homeowners, renters and business owners affected by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding in Riley County are urged to register for assistance by calling 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA) which is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.  For applicants with special speech or hearing needs, the TTY number is 1-800-462-7585.  Applicants may also register online at www.fema.gov.

Individual and household assistance may include:

Disaster Loans - The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is the federal government's primary source of money for the long-term rebuilding of disaster-damaged private property. SBA helps homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and private non-profit organizations fund repairs or rebuilding efforts, and cover the cost of replacing lost or disaster-damaged personal property. These disaster loans cover uninsured and uncompensated losses and do not duplicate benefits of other agencies or organizations.
