EAGLE PASS, Texas -- Texans in the counties of Atascosa, Denton, Maverick, Moore, and Swisher, who were affected by the April 21-24 severe storms and flooding, have only 30 days left to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for possible state and federal disaster assistance.
June 2, 2007 marks the halfway point in the 60-day registration period. Registrations cannot be accepted after the July 2, 2007 deadline.
Recovery officials urge residents and business owners with disaster-related damage in the five-county designated disaster areas to call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) to register. The number for those with speech or hearing impairment is 1-800-462-7585. Lines are open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"Registration keeps open the possibility of a wide range of assistance," said Tony Russell, the FEMA official in charge of federal recovery operations. "If your insurance coverage comes up short, you need to be registered for us to help."
There is no need to delay registering because you're waiting for an insurance settlement. Registration does not obligate anyone to accept aid if, for any reason, they decide against it.
FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
