BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the New York State Office of Emergency Management (SEMO) announce the closure of the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) located at the Brighton Golf Club, 70 Brompton Road in Tonawanda on Saturday, December 9.

The DRC hours of operation will remain from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through the close of business on Saturday, December 9.   

Western New York residents have made more than 1,700 visits to the Tonawanda DRC since it opened on November 4. The DRC was one of two centers opened to serve residents of Erie, Genesee, Niagara and Orleans counties who suffered losses as a result of the October lake-effect storm. The DRC located in the City of Buffalo closed on Saturday, December 2.

Individuals needing assistance after December 9 will be able to talk with FEMA representatives by calling FEMA's Helpline at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or (TTY) 1-800-462-7585 for the speech or hearing impaired individuals. Multilingual operators are available when needed.  Additional information may be found online at www.fema.gov

Individuals who suffered losses during the October severe storms and flooding are urged to register for assistance, if they have not already done so, by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing or speech impaired. Individuals can also register online at www.fema.gov. The FEMA registration deadline is December 23, 2006.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident, initiates mitigation activities and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA works closely with state and local emergency managers, law enforcement personnel, firefighters and other first responders. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
