Oklahoma Floodwaters Recede

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Oklahoma state officials report floodwaters across affected areas of Oklahoma have crested and are receding in most areas. The Deep Fork River in the vicinity of Beggs in Okmulgee County is still abouve flood stage. Water is also reported over the roads in some rural areas, mainly in Okmulgee and Ottawa counties.
All shelters are closed, but the American Red Cross (ARC) and the Salvation Army continue to operate mobile canteens in the Miami area of Ottawa County. Both organizations plan to keep their mobile units in operation until Sunday, May 2.
Seven Oklahoma counties are reporting some level of damage. In Ottawa County, initial reports indicate some damage in the Miami/Picher area. There was also some damage reported in Tulsa, Creek, Woods, Osage, Hominy and Mayes County.
The Oklahoma Department of Civil Emergency Management and local governments will begin damage surveys on Monday, May 3. FEMA's regional office in Denton, Texas is in contact with state officials and will continue to monitor the situation.
