Flooding Continues in Oklahoma

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Local officials report flooding continues in the Miami, Okla. area. The Ottowa County community has been reported to have as many as 30 homes affected by floodwaters on the Neosho River. The National Weather Service (NWS) expects the river to have a prolonged cresting around four and one-half feet above flood stage. The river is expected to fall below flood stage by Friday evening.
Bird Creek in Tulsa County is expected to fall below flood stage today after affecting a 20-square-block area of Skiatook. Major flooding is also reported along the Deep Fork River near Beggs. The river is expected to continue to rise until Thursday, when it will crest about eight and one-half feet above flood stage.
Severe and prolonged flooding along the river in Okmulgee County is also anticipated. One major road is reported blocked. Minor flooding is reported in Osage, Woods and Mayes counties.
Oklahoma's Department of Civil Emergency Management plans to begin surveying damage in the affected areas as soon as the water recedes and roads are open.
FEMA officials from the regional office in Denton, Texas (Region VI) are monitoring the situation and remain in contact with the Oklahoma emergency management staff.
