Oklahoma Flooding Reported

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The National Weather Service (NWS) reports parts of Oklahoma saw as much as five inches of rain over the weekend, prompting flooding in several locations. From Grady County in south-central Okla. to Tulsa County in the northeast, numerous locations reported flash flooding and temporary closing of roadways near creeks and streams.
Okla. state officials report that as many as 30 homes near the Neosho River in Miami (Ottawa County) were affected by flood waters and a twenty block area of Skiatook (Tulsa County) experienced some flooding along Bird Creek. Local officials evacuated the residents in both areas while the American Red Cross and the Seventh Day Adventist provided shelter and meals. Nine people were reported sheltered overnight in Skiatook.
NWS forecasters expect the Neosho River to fall below flood stage today. Major flooding is expected along the Deep Fork River near Beggs (Okmulogee County) by Friday, with the river possibly as rising to as much as seven feet above flood stage. Severe and prolonged flooding along the river is anticipated, with a large part of the floodplain covered by depths of five to eight feet of water with swift currents.
Local officials conducted damage assessments in the town of Carrier (Garfield County) and report six homes and two businesses destroyed with 26 homes sustaining minor damage.
FEMA's regional office in Denton, Texas (Region VI) in in contact with Okla. state officials and continues to monitor the situation.
