FEMA Seeks Student Interns

Release Date: April 1, 1999
Release Number: HQ-99-085

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- It is difficult to get a good job with out experience and it is difficult to get experience with out a good job. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) offers high quality work experience through internships.

FEMA's mission is to provide leadership and support to reduce the loss of life and property and protect our nation's institutions from all types of hazards through a comprehensive, risk-based, all-hazards emergency management program of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.

There are approximately fifteen internship positions available through our federal headquarters office in Washington DC. All internships are unpaid. We suggest that the internships last at least three months in order to receive the maximum benefits of the program.

All interns will be provided with a workstation at FEMA Headquarters, day-to-day supervision, and participation in meetings, access to information, and other support as needed. Here at FEMA, we recognize that internships are part of academic degree programs and will support the internship as a professional learning experience that meets the requirements of FEMA and of the College or University.

Opportunities are currently available in:

  • Office of the Director
  • Office of Corporate Affairs
  • Office of Congressional Affairs
  • Mitigation Directorate
  • Office of Public Affairs
