Disaster Recovery Center Opens in Durango

Denver, CO -- Local officials are providing a location for the Colorado Office of Emergency Management, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to establish a Disaster Recovery Center in Durango to assist individuals affected by the recent wildfires. The center will be open Saturday, June 29, and will be located at:
Riverview Elementary School
2900 Mesa Ave.
Durango, CO
The center will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until further notice.
"This is an opportunity for people to sit down and talk face-to-face with someone that can answer questions about their recovery needs," said Tommy Grier, state coordinating officer for the disaster.
Recovery teams will answer questions, and provide recovery information and written materials about various assistance programs available to homeowners, renters and businesses. Representatives from state, federal and voluntary agencies will be available, including the SBA.
"We're trying to make the process easier by bringing recovery teams close to people in the communities and rural areas where they live," said Federal Coordinating Officer Steve Emory.
"We encourage anyone who needs disaster assistance information to visit the center," Grier said. "But the only way to apply for disaster assistance is by calling the FEMA toll-free registration number."
Individuals affected by the fires are urged to start the application process before visiting the center by calling FEMA's toll-free number at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Hearing and speech-impaired may call 1-800-462-7585 (TTY).
