Wise, VA -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) remind Virginia residents to complete and return their disaster loan applications, even if they don't intend to take a loan. The loan applications were distributed to those who registered for disaster assistance following May flooding, tornadoes and severe storms.

Officials say it is important to complete the loan packet because it will affect the assistance that is offered. The SBA needs to determine if a flood victim can afford a low interest loan and if the applicant can afford it, one will be offered. If the SBA does no approve the loan, the applicant is referred to the Individual and Family Grant (IFG) program for consideration.

The application process begins with a call to FEMA's toll-free telephone number, 1-800-621-FEMA (1-800-621-3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the speech- or hearing-impaired. The deadline to register for assistance is July 5.
