The Region III organization chart is newly updated to reflect changes in accordance with the national Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) structure.
The establishment of an Office of National Preparedness was a priority of Director Allbaugh, who asked for it on May 8, 2001. It was in place effective August 26, 2001. The terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, prompted some changes in organization at the national and regional levels.
A major change involved the transfer of the Technological Hazards Branch from the Readiness, Response and Recovery Division to the new National Preparedness Division.
The Technological Hazards Branch becomes the Technological Services, Assessment and Exercise Branch and the Readiness, Response and Recovery Division becomes the Response and Recovery Division.
The training function was transferred from Response and Recovery to the Administration and Resource Planning Division.
FEMA Region III Director Charlotte Herbert Mears approved the changes on May 5, 2002. The reorganization was complete in June.
