Indianapolis, IN -- Indiana residents affected by the storms and flooding that occurred from April 28 thru June 7 can apply for assistance simply by picking up the phone and placing a call, according to state and federal disaster recovery officials. "I want to clear up any confusion about the application process," said Federal Coordinating Officer Gracia Szczech. "It's a one-step process that can be completed from the privacy of your home."
"You do not have to visit a Disaster Recovery Center to complete the application process," Szczech explained. "People have the option of visiting one of several centers currently operating in the disaster-declared areas for additional assistance and information or if they want to talk face-to-face with representatives of local, state, federal and voluntary agencies. If your phone is out of service, arrangements can be made at the centers so you can call the toll-free registration number."
State Coordinating Officer Patrick R. Ralston encouraged everyone who suffered storm-related damage or loss to call the FEMA toll-free registration number. "With one call, individuals can apply for a wide range of disaster assistance," said Ralston. "Housing assistance, home repair, low-interest loans for individuals and businesses, and individual and family grants are available to help disaster victims."
Those affected by the disaster can apply for assistance immediately by calling the FEMA toll-free registration number, 800 621-3362. Those with a speech or hearing impairment can call TTY 800-462-7585. Both lines are open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST seven days a week until further notice.
