State And Federal Emergency Managers To Meet With Public Officials And Certain Private Non-Profit Representatives

ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. -- Last week, President Clinton made funds available to public officials in 10 counties in Vermont to help pay for actions taken to prevent or reduce long-term risk to life and property during the severe storms and flooding September 16-21, 1999. Those counties are: Bennington, Caledonia, Essex, Lamoille, Orange, Orleans, Rutland, Washington, Windham, and Windsor.
Three meetings are schedule for local representatives who had serious damages in their communities during the severe storm and flooding associated with Tropical Storm Floyd. The first two briefings are Friday November 19,1999 at City Hall in Brattleboro, at 10 a.m. and at the VA Hospital in White River Junction at 2 p.m. A third briefing is at the Lamoille County Planning Commission Office in Morrisville at 10 a.m. on Monday November 22.
Ed von Turkovich, the State Coordinating Officer for the recently announced federal disaster declaration along with Justo Hernandez, the Federal Coordinating Officer ask that officials in the declared counties come to one of the special briefings.
"We scheduled these meetings to explain the types of assistance available to state and local governments and certain private non-profit entities to recover costs associated with damages sustained in this event" explained Hernandez.
"We urge officials from local governments and also representatives from private non-profit organizations that offer government like services to attend one of the meetings" added von Turkovich.
