Little Rock, AR -- Arkansans experiencing the December ice storms may have feelings of grief, depression or anger. Two ways to obtain help dealing with these emotions are through the American Red Cross and the Arkansas Department of Human Services Division of Mental Health Services.
Counseling is as close as the telephone book. There is no charge if the number is obtained through Mental Health Services. Officials at the Department of Human Services Division of Mental Health Services suggest victims call their local Community Mental Health Center or the Division of Mental Health Information Line at 877-227-0007 for questions about counseling services or contact information.
The American Red Cross has sent outreach teams into the field to speak to families and individuals who would like to take advantage of crisis counseling. Outreach teams speak with the disaster victims one time then refer them to local counseling. The teams consist of a caseworker, a nurse and a mental health representative. Teams in the disaster-affected counties have made 304 contacts. Individuals desiring counseling to deal with the aftermath of the disaster may call the Red Cross Hotline at 877-753-7324.
