Free Legal Counseling For Ice Storm Victims

Little Rock, AR -- Arkansans who need legal help after the December ice storms can now receive free legal counseling. As part of the disaster recovery effort, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has arranged for the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association to provide legal assistance for victims with disaster-related problems who, as a result of the disaster, are not able to obtain legal help.

Legal services provided may include legal advice, counseling or certain types of representation, in areas such as:

Residents of the following 60 Arkansas counties are eligible for these services: Arkansas, Baxter, Benton, Bradley, Calhoun, Clark, Cleveland, Columbia, Conway, Crawford, Crittenden, Cross, Dallas, Desha, Drew, Faulkner, Franklin, Garland, Grant, Hempstead, Hot Spring, Howard, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Lafayette, Lee, Lincoln, Little River, Logan, Lonoke, Madison, Miller, Mississippi, Monroe, Montgomery, Nevada, Newton, Ouachita, Perry, Pike, Poinsett, Polk, Pope, Prairie, Pulaski, St. Francis, Saline, Scott, Searcy, Sebastian, Sevier, Union, Van Buren, Washington, White, Woodruff and Yell.

Anyone who has sustained damage or losses related to the December ice storms and needs legal assistance with disaster-related problems may call the toll-free Disaster Legal Services Hotline at 800-467-0372. The Hotline is answered from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. At other times, you can leave a message.
