Federal/State Officials Encourage Residents To Register By Phone Before Visiting Recovery Center

Texarkana, TX -- Texans in Bowie, Cass, Lamar and Red River counties who suffered storm damage during the severe winter storms between Dec. 12 and Jan. 15 can save time when they come to the Disaster Recovery Center in Texarkana by calling the toll--free 800 registration line first, disaster officials said.
Coordinating officers from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Division of Emergency Management (DEM) of the Texas Department of Public Safety have noted that many people visiting the registration center have not yet registered.
To expedite the process, Texans are encouraged to call the toll--free registration line, 800--462--9029, or 800--462--7585 (TTY) for the speech and hearing impaired, before visiting the recovery center. People also may find that many of their questions are answered by the phone call.
When people visit the Disaster Recovery Center at 122 Plaza West in Texarkana, they can use their time obtaining answers to their questions and check on the status of assistance they have requested.
At the recovery center, residents can get information from state and federal representatives on housing assistance, insurance information, unemployment assistance, area agencies on aging, consumer protection, U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loan assistance, grant assistance and stress management from state and federal agencies.
The toll--free 800 line is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week.
The Disaster Recovery Center is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The recovery center is closed Sunday.
