DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division (HSEMD) announced the opening of a third federal-state Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Aurora. The DRC will be located at the Aurora Comet Center, 401 Woodruff Street and will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today. After that, the hours will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week until further notice.

Residents in Buchanan, Black Hawk and Butler counties who were affected by severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding beginning on May 25, and continuing are encouraged to visit one of the centers available to them. Other DRCs are open seven days a week in Parkersburg at the Memorial Veterans Building and in New Hartford at the fire station.

Representatives from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration will be available to answer questions and provide recovery information. Written materials about various assistance programs are also available to individuals and business owners.

If possible, visitors should register with FEMA prior to visiting the DRC, but phones are available if residents have not pre-registered. Register by calling FEMA's toll-free registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or (TTY 1-800-462-7585) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, or go online at www.fema.gov

When registering, applicants should provide current contact information, insurance information, a brief description of damage sustained as well as the specific location of damaged property.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
