Alliance for the Healthiest Nation

Healthiest Nation

Statistics tell us that although the health of many Americans is good, America is far from the healthiest of the developed countries. Overall the United States has a relatively poor performance on such key measures as longevity and infant mortality, and, furthermore, some American population groups are considerably less healthy in many ways than others: chronic disease, injury, environmental exposures, health care quality, and a host of other health issues show major disparities.

Indisputable evidence shows that how we live–and how we design our communities and social policies–can make a dramatic difference in our health. This effort reinforces and builds on CDC′s Health Protection Goals and Strategic Imperatives as the roadmap for CDC′s contribution to creating the Healthiest Nation. Within CDC, the Healthiest Nation Coordinating Council (HNCC) will guide our overall direction, including support and participation as a founding member of the Alliance for the Healthiest Nation (AHN).

CDC and the AHN recognize that no one organization, sector, or individual can achieve the full promise of a healthier America alone. We need to work together to make health improvement a priority in industry and government, in public and private services, and in the infrastructure for our cities and towns, roads, transportation, food system, and housing. And we need to ensure that CDC is an exemplary organization in promoting the health of its employees and their families.

This site provides information on CDC′s Healthiest Nation Initiative, the HNCC, and the AHN.
