Economist Robert J. Shiller spoke on "What to Do About Worsening Economic Inequality: The Rising Tide Tax System and Other Proposals" in a program sponsored by the Library's Science, Technology and Business Division.
Speaker Biography: Robert Shiller is the Stanley B. Resor Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics and Cowles Foundation for Research in Economics at Yale University, and a fellow at the International Center for Finance, Yale School of Management. His writings cover a broad spectrum of economic topics including financial markets; financial innovation; behavioral economics; macroeconomics; real estate; statistical methods; and public attitudes, opinions and moral judgments regarding markets. Shiller, who has been a long-time research associate with the National Bureau of Economic Research, served as vice president of the American Economic Association in 2005 and is currently president of the Eastern Economic Association. He is also chief economist for MacroMarkets LLC, a firm he cofounded that is working on expanding the scope of financial markets.
