Alan Cutler, a geologist and writer affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution, spoke about his recent book, "The Seashell on the Mountaintop: A Story of Science, Sainthood and the Humble Genius Who Discovered a New History of Earth," which describes the life of Nicholaus Steno, a 17th century priest and scientist who is considered to be the founder of geology.
Speaker Biography: Alan Cutler has a Ph.D. in geology and is a writer affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution. Cutler was a contributing editor to "The Forces of Change: A New View of Nature," a joint publication of the Smithsonian and the National Geographic Society. His writing has also appeared in The Washington Post and The Sciences, among other publications. He lives in Gaithersburg, Md.
