"To assure the safety and enhance the success of all NASA activities"

The Safety and Assurance Requirements Division provides the corporate leadership in the definition and implementation of NASA's Agency-wide Safety and Mission Assurance Policies, Procedures, Standards, Tools, Techniques, and Training. In addition to the Division's primary role in developing the safety and mission assurance infrastructure, the Division is also responsible for the oversight and independent assessment and support of Operational/Institutional/Aviation Safety.

The Division promotes improved safety and mission assurance by establishing and managing the Agency's comprehensive safety program for the protection of the public, the NASA workforce including astronauts and pilots, and the systems hardware. In addition the assurance requirements, tools and techniques developed by the Division are available for application throughout operations and the systems development life cycle. The Safety and Assurance Requirements Division provides the policy and requirement interpretations that permit the Mission Offices and Institutional activities to apply safety as the first step in mission success.
