Mesa, AZ -- The state-federal disaster help centers in Heber and Show Low will close at 6 p.m. Monday, August 26. Until that date the centers are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The centers were opened to help with the recovery process for people who had damage or losses from the Rodeo-Chediski fire, which President Bush declared a major disaster on June 25.

August 26 is the deadline for individuals to register for assistance for fire-related damage at the FEMA toll-free numbers, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585. These numbers also serve as the FEMA Helpline, which will remain open until further notice from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday.

"Until the August 26 deadline, we urge anyone who had damage or loss from the Rodeo-Chediski fire to call and register for assistance. We want to help everyone who qualifies," said Michael P. Austin, director of the Arizona Division of Emergency Management.

"Even after the help centers close, Arizonans affected by the fire can get information through the Helpline, or learn the status of their applications," said Sandy Coachman, FEMA's federal coordinating officer for the recovery effort.

Federal and state assistance in response and recovery to the fire has totaled more than $25 million.
