The first METS Opening Day will take place at the Library of Congress,
Washington, DC on October 27th and 28th.
This event will focus on providing an overview of the METS document format
and discussing the basics of implementing digital library systems which use
METS. Participants will be given an opportunity to build METS documents
from scratch, learn about how other institutions are implementing METS, and
discuss technical details of implementing a METS-based digital library
infrastructure with other practitioners.
Due to space constraints, we will have to limit registration in this
Opening Day event to 100 people.
You may register to participate in this event at
http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/openingday.html.
A tentative program for the Opening Day is available at the
website. Registration will be on a
first-come/first-serve basis. There is no registration fee for attending
the Opening Day.
This is the first of several planned Opening Day events. The next is
tentatively scheduled for Spring 2004 and will be held on the West Coast of
the United States. The third is scheduled for Summer 2005, and will be held
in the United Kingdom.
Details on future Opening Days will be available at the METS website.
