Global Disease Detection

GDD Operations Center

The GDD Operations Center (GDDOC) in Atlanta is an epidemic intelligence unit focused on early detection of international events to which CDC may be asked to respond. The GDDOC brings together data from WHO, media reports, and unclassified U.S. government sources, and provides it to CDC subject matter experts and programs for analysis and response. The GDDOC also provides funds to support international outbreak responses by CDC programs. When staff are deployed, the CDC technical program takes the lead and the GDDOC facilitates travel, communications with the field team, logistics, and select epidemiological support, so that the program can focus on the technical aspects of the intervention.
