The problem with "original" is that it doesn't tell you that the relatedItem is the host, which is a necessary structural relationship for the relatedItem. This is where I can see the value of cataloging rules. They can tell you where to stop ;-). I would apply a rule that I am cataloging the "item in hand," i.e. the article in the CR. The information about it being originally published in the LA Times would go into a note. It's important information, but I'm not creating a record for the LA Times article, I'm creating a record for the article in the CR, and that's what I describe. The CR undoubtedly has a note saying where the article first appeared, and I would quote that as a note in my metadata record. In fact, that makes perfect sense because for all I know the CR got it wrong, so all I'm doing is reporting what they say about the original publication. kc On Sun, 2003-11-30 at 17:28, Bruce D'Arcus wrote: > OK, here's a tricky one: a newspaper article republished in the > Congressional Record. > > I would have assumed I would have a relatedItem "host" that is the CR, > and then within that a relatedItem "original."
