Hello Bruce, My understanding of the the situation is this. When cataloging a chapter from a book or article from a journal, each of these are monographic components because they are not going to be published (in this forum) again. What is published serially is the journal itself, which should be coded as continuing. If the journal is being fully analyzed (each article is getting it's own description as well as the journal being described), then there should be multiple avenues to access each article. I hope this helps, Jacquie Samples ********************************************* Jacqueline Samples Metadata Librarian Cataloging Department NCSU Libraries, Box 7111 North Carolina State University Raleigh, NC 27695-7111 [log in to unmask] Phone: (919) 515-3732 Fax: (919) 515-8264 ********************************************** Bruce D'Arcus wrote: > On Jul 22, 2004, at 10:12 AM, Karen Coyle wrote: > >> It seems that "monographic" and "monograph" are somewhat different. >> Journal articles are considered "monographic components" in the MARC >> record (see definition of Leader /07).
