Scientific advancement requires a solid, responsive infrastructure for devising and testing new approaches to treating illness and disability. Patient-volunteers participating in this research deserve the highest quality of care and the best healing environment we can provide. More than one-quarter million patients from around the globe have participated in clinical research studies at the NIH Clinical Center since the first patients were admitted in 1953. On any given day, more than 1,000 studies are conducted on the intramural campus in Bethesda, MD.
