The Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum hosts its annual “Air & Scare,” from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. Join creepy space aliens, mysterious astronauts and ghostly pilots for safe, indoor trick-or-treating.

This year’s event has something for everyone in the family. The youngest visitors will enjoy story times, face-painting stations and hands-on activities. There will be special free screenings of an episode of “The Jetsons” in the Imax Theater, plus free simulator rides and Halloween crafts. Parents and kids can pose for photos with “Star Wars” characters; for teenagers there will be a Teen Zone with karaoke, simulation games and robotics demonstrations. A late screening of “Dark Knight” at the Imax Theater will follow the event.

Attendees are encouraged to come in their favorite flight-themed costume. Admission is free, but parking is $10. “Air & Scare” is made possible by the generous support of Mars Snackfood US, LLC.

The National Air and Space Museum is on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., at Sixth Street and Independence Avenue S.W. The museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is located in Chantilly, Va., near Washington Dulles International Airport. Both facilities are open daily from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. (closed Dec. 25).
