JACQUELIN EASTER TO HEAD FARM SERVICE AGENCY IN VIRGINIA

WASHINGTON, Jan. 2, 2003 USDA's Farm Service Agency
(FSA) Administrator James R. Little today announced the
appointment of Jacquelin Easter as State Executive
Director (SED) for FSA in Virginia, effective January 13,
2003.

Prior to being named SED, Easter was director of the
Virginia Farm Bureau. She was the first woman ever
elected by Virginia farmers to represent farmers on
legislative issues. As director, Easter worked to support
county farm bureau members in District 9 through
legislative lobbying, leadership programs, commodity
associations, rural health programs, products, insurance,
marketing and other services. She served as the voice of
the people on agricultural matters.

"Mrs. Easter's knowledge and active involvement in
agricultural issues is vital to the mission of the
Agency," said Little.

Easter is a 5th generation farm owner and operator. As
a beef and poultry producer, Easter and her family raise
chickens for Tyson Foods and help young 4-H members with
beef calf projects. She is an active member of the
Virginia Cattlemen's Association, the Virginia Poultry
Federation and several other agricultural boards and
committees. Easter is an advocate of education as well.
She taught subjects in mathematics for 15 years and holds
two Bachelor of Science degrees and three Master of
Science degrees from Longwood College in Farmville,
Virginia.

FSA ensures the well-being of American agriculture, the
environment and the American public through efficient and
equitable administration of farm commodity programs; farm
ownership, operating and emergency loans; conservation and
environmental program; emergency and disaster assistance;
domestic and international food assistance and
international export credit programs.
