Atlas of Injury Mortality Among American Indian and Alaska Native Children and Youth, 1989-1998

picture of publication coverDuring 1989-1998, injuries caused the deaths of 3,718 Native American children, aged 0-19 years, residing in the Indian Health Service areas. Injury is the leading cause of death for all American children, but poses a particular threat to Native American children. To reduce this disparity, increased efforts should be made to protect Native American children and to narrow the gap with other children in America.
