Visiting NCHS

The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) headquarters is located in Hyattsville, Maryland. The information telephone number is (301) 458-4000.  For ease in locating us, please see the directions and maps pages.

Visitor parking
Visitor parking is available in the parking garage adjacent to the Metro IV Building.  Enter at the visitor parking entrance on Toledo Road.  Current rates are $2.00 for the first hour, and $1.00 for subsequent hours, with a maximum of $7.00 per day.

Metro access
NCHS is located one and a half blocks from the Prince George's Plaza station on the Metro Green Line. 
Information about metro bus and rail service is accessible through the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority Web site.

Security system
All visitors must proceed through a security check, sign in with the security guard personnel, and obtain a visitors pass. The security personnel will contact your NCHS point of contact, who will escort you to your final destination.

Non-U.S. citizen visitors
In accordance with the Visitors and Foreign Nationals in the Workplace at CDC Policy, pre-approval is required for all non-U.S. citizens (including lawful permanent residents) visiting CDC facilities. The request must be submitted no later than 10 business days before the individual’s date of arrival (see the Request for Non-U.S. Citizen Access Click to open PDF file 12 KB) to the NCHS Physical Security Officer (PSO). Non-U.S. citizens will not be permitted entry unless the request has been submitted and approval granted by the CDC Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness (OSEP). Upon receiving confirmation from OSEP, the NCHS PSO will notify the hosting individual and the security guard staff. Foreign nationals must present a valid passport to be granted entry access.
