Health : Guam

A listing of web sites that provide links to resources relating to Guam. The major online sources of health information are the databases of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U. S. National Library of Medicine, and the World Health Organization. One of the more important sources for bibliography of academic books and articles concerning the Guam is the annual Handbook of Latin American Studies (http://lcweb2.loc.gov/hlas/) produced by over 130 contributing editors under the editorship of the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress. Additional coverage of journal articles can be found through a subscription to the Hispanic American Periodical Index (http://hapi.gseis.ucla.edu/).   Both the Handbook and HAPI are available in selected libraries in book form.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for the Western Pacific offers a health profile for Guam, a territory of the United States. The profile notes the geography, demographics, health status, national health priorities, health resources, and WHO collaborative programs of Guam.

The linked birth and infant death data set includes the information from the death certificate for each infant under 1 year of age who dies in the United States, Puerto Rico, The Virgin Islands, and Guam. The linked files include information from the birth certificate such as age, race, and Hispanic origin of the parents, birthweight, period of gestation, plurality, prenatal care usage, maternal education, live birth order, marital status, and maternal smoking.

The National Governors' Association (NGA) presents the Guam summary of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). The central objective of SCHIP is to improve children's health status and reduce health disparities. The summary discusses the Guam program, called Guam CHIP, including eligibility levels, benefits, service delivery, the source of state match, and cost sharing.
