Assistant Inspector General for Investigations Tim Camus Named Department of Treasury Meritorious Senior Professional

An honor bestowed on only five percent of Federal Government executives, Tim Camus was recognized for his outstanding leadership and longtime service to the United States as a Department of Treasury Presidential Rank Award Meritorious Senior Professional.

"I am not at all surprised by the President’s recognition of Tim. As a dedicated professional, Tim is committed to excellence and I am proud to say he works for our organization," said J. Russell George, Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration.

Each year, the President recognizes and celebrates a small group of career senior executives with the Presidential Rank Award. Recipients of this prestigious award are strong leaders and professionals who achieve results and consistently demonstrate strength, integrity, industriousness, and a relentless commitment to excellence in public service.

With 23 years of Federal Government tenure, Tim currently supervises all of Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration’s (TIGTA’s) field Special Agents as well as the Strategic Enforcement Division, the division within TIGTA responsible for computer related investigations including the UNAX detection program, computer forensics and the most recent phishing and spam e-mail impersonation attacks.

Tim has been a Treasury employee for the entirety of his federal career, beginning in 1985 as a Revenue Officer for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). In 1991, Tim joined the IRS Inspection Service as a criminal investigator and followed that role when TIGTA was established under the IRS Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998 to provide independent oversight of IRS activities. In July 2002, Tim received the TIGTA Inspector General Award for his innovative leadership.
