In accordance with Executive Order 12999, Educational Technology: Ensuring Opportunity for All Children in the Next Century, the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), administers a computer donation program to assist schools and eligible non-profit organizations in acquiring Information Technology equipment.

Items such as computers, printers, scanners, fax machines, keyboards, modems, speakers, and related IT accessories can be donated directly to a school.

Department of Education Accountable Officers may identify schools and non-profits organizations as possible recipients when submitting Reports of Excess Personal Property to FS.

ED volunteers may assist teachers in installing and using these assets and connecting their institutions to the Internet. Principal offices also qualify ED volunteers and authorize administrative leave, where appropriate.

In order for schools and eligible non-profit organizations to receive donations from ED they must be registered at the Computers for Learning website at http://www.computers.fed.gov/public/aboutProg.asp. Additional information about the CFL website can be obtained by contacting the Computers for Learning Partnership Program managed by GSA at 202-501-3846.
