DAVID FRANK

David Frank was appointed director of communications by Secretary of Education Richard Riley on June 17, l996. Frank, who serves as spokesperson for the department, heads the Office of Public Affairs and coordinates all department communications.

Frank has been at the department since l994, handling communications on education funding issues, family involvement in children's learning and the GOALS 2000: Educate America Act. He also served as a speech writer for Secretary Riley.

Before joining the department Frank was a speech writer for Secretary of State Warren Christopher on a variety of foreign policy issues. In the l980s he worked as a staff associate for the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He also worked as a newspaper reporter for the Danvers Herald in Danvers, Massachusetts.

Frank graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Stanford University in l971 with a bachelor's degree in history. He later received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University.

He is a native of Bayonne, N.J. and is married with two children.
