States have enacted legislation to aid in the prevention and treatment of obesity. The following chart displays selected obesity-related state legislation enacted in years 2000-2003. The items are listed in alphabetical order by state for each year.

Hunter Amends the Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois and the State Finance Act; Provides that the Department of Public Health shall, subject to appropriation, sample and collect data concerning (i) the effectiveness of existing methods for treating or preventing obesity; (ii) the effectiveness of alternate methods for treating or preventing obesity; (iii) the fiscal impact of treating or preventing obesity; (iv) the compliance and cooperation of patients with various methods of treating or preventing obesity; and (v) any reduction in serious medical problems associated with diabetes that results from treating or preventing obesity 6/30/2003
