World War I Editions

A bound collection of volume one of Stars and Stripes is available in the Rare Book and Special Collections Reading Room. This collection comprises all issues of the newspaper published from February 8, 1918 to January 31, 1919.

In 1971, the New York Times published Stars and Stripes: The Complete File of the Official Newspaper of the A.E.F, 1918-1919. All seventy one issues of Stars and Stripes appear in their entirety. An introduction by Herbert Mitgang, who wrote for several of the European editions of Stars and Stripes during World War II, provides a brief history of the A.E.F. publication.

The New York Public Library microfilm set of the A.E.F. edition of Stars and Stripes is available in the Microfilm Reading Room.

The postwar commercial edition of Stars and Stripes, which was published from June 14, 1919 to January 2, 1926 when it merged with the National Tribune, is available on microfilm in the Microform Reading Room.
