Chief Scientist: Tom Reiss. Geodetic data (geodimeter,
instrumentheightmeter, tripod, battery, stadiarods,
digitalcamera) of field activity M-N1-99-MB in Main Beach,
Santa Cruz, California from 01/11/1999 to 01/11/1999,

- Purpose:
-
These data and information are intended for science
researchers, students from elementary through
college, policy makers, and general public.

Equipment Used -
geodimeter 640 total station, autolock and robotic capabilities, internal memory only, scruz.are file resident in memory
instrumentheightmeter
tripod Wood Wild tripod
battery 12-volt gel cell battery
stadiarods Seco rwlr-4, w/extr (combined height: 1.572 m), Seco bwlr-4, w/extb (combined height: 1.573 m), Mound City exp3, w/hydro (combined heights: 1.701 m, 3.096 m, and 4.545 m), Seco level rod support tripods (two)
digitalcamera Kodak DC120 digital camera
Notes -
The total station was set up south of the west entrance to
the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Fun Center, landward of the berm crest.
The SECO level rods, in conjunction with the level-rod support tripods
were placed on the control points and pointed towards the total station.
Program 10 (site setup) was performed on the total station
Program 20 (station establishment) was performed on the total station
using option "Unknown Station Location", utilizing Control Points 10812,
10821, and 10822.
Program 4 (UTM) was used to collect control and topo points.
Control Points: 10822, 10812 were surveyed (Fast Standard mode)
The Profile SN1 (west line) was surveyed using the EXP3 stadia rod
(Tracking mode) and carried offshore into the surf zone. The line was
terminated at the longest extent of the stadia rod.
Control Point: 10821 was surveyed (Fast Standard mode)
The Profile SN2 (east line) was surveyed using the EXP3 stadia rod
(Tracking mode) and carried offshore into the surf zone. The line was
terminated at the longest extent of the stadia rod.
Control Point: 10811 was surveyed (Fast Standard mode)
The Wet/Dry line was surveyed using the EXP3 stadia rod (Tracking mode)
Gretchen Luepke sketched the beach and assisted with control points.
Thomas E. Reiss operated the total station and photographed the area.
Justin Friesner was the rodman
The following images were taken with a Kodak DC120 Digital camera.
99011113 -- View of Main Beach, from the berm crest, looking
west-southwest towards the wharf. There are two control
points on the wharf near the landward end. The eastern
point is associated with Main beach while the western
point is associated with Cowells Beach.
99011114 -- View of Main Beach, from the berm crest, looking
north-northwest. The Geodimeter is situated between the
two shore-normal profiles. There are two control points
situated within this image; one is on the sidewalk
(image left) and the second is near the public
beach access point near the Fun House. The
western shore-normal line runs off the
control point on the sidewalk.
99011115 -- View of Main Beach, from the berm crest, looking
east-northeast. Two shore-normal lines are surveyed on
this beach, along with the wet/dry line.
99011116 -- View of Main Beach, from the berm crest, looking north,
back towards the Fun House. A control point is situated
on the west side of the eastern group of stairs leading
up to the Fun Center, from the beach. The eastern
shore-normal line runs off this "Fun Center Stairs"
control point.
