Preventing Child Abuse

Summary: This brochure presents P.L. 101-630, “The Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act” and P.L. 101-647, “Crime Control Act of 1990, Child Care Worker Employee Background Checks.” All Tribes and/or Tribal organization positions that allow an applicant employee or volunteer regular contact with, or control over, Indian children are subject to a background/character investigation and determination of suitability for employment. Minimum standards of character are described. A list is included of the requirements of a background investigation.
