Loan Programs for Military Personnel

The Small Business Administration (SBA) offers various loans designed for military personnel. Please note that these loans are offered through the Small Business Administration and not the Department of Defense. For more information about these or other SBA loans, please visit the Small Business Administration website.

Patriot Express Loan Pilot Program:

The Small Business Administration’s new Patriot Express Loan Pilot Program is available to military community members. The Patriot Express Loan is offered by SBA’s network of participating lenders nationwide and features the SBA’s fastest turnaround time for loan approvals. Loans are available up to $500,000 and qualify for SBA’s maximum guaranty of up to 85 percent for $150,000 or less and up to 75 percent for loans over $150,000 to $500,000. For loans above $350,000, lenders are required to take all available collateral.

Military Reservist Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program:

(Note: This program applies to military conflicts occurring or ending on or after March 24, 1999)

The Military Reservist Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program provide funds to eligible small businesses to meet ordinary and necessary operating expenses that could have been met but were not because an essential employee was “called-up” to active duty in their role as a military reservist. These loans are intended only to provide the amount of working capital needed by a small business to pay its necessary obligations as they mature until operations return to normal after the essential employee is released from active military duty. These loans can not be used to cover lost income or lost profits nor can they be used to cover a regular commercial debt, to refinance long-term debt, or to expand the business.
