The Institute, in partnership with the United States Department of State’s Foreign Service Institute (FSI), conducted a four-day training seminar entitled the “International Conflict Workshop (PP-519).”  This was the Institute’s fifth time working with FSI on this course.  The week featured three panels, consisting of nine leading experts in their fields, and six expert guest speakers.  There were 24 participants from the Department of State, the Department of Defense, and nongovernmental organizations.  The participants received presentations that emphasized conflict analysis, negotiation, mediation, preventive diplomacy, peace and humanitarian operations, as well as presentations regarding the main players in such operations (e.g. military, police, NGOs, the media, etc).  The workshop included a simulation and exercises.  The simulation involved the application of all the skills presented by the trainers.  As a result of the seminar, participants said they were knowledgeable of and confident in their ability to use conflict management tools in onward professional assignments.
