Hurricane Ivan
Pre- and Post-Storm 3D Topography
View Pre- and Post-Storm 3D Topography:
Before and after 3D topography showing the collapsed front of a multistory building, Orange Beach, AL : In these Lidar images, the rectangular mounds are buildings measured by the airborne laser mapping system. The five-story building in the center of the image was perched on top of a dune that was eroded during Hurricane Ivan. The Gulf-front portion of the five-story building collapsed creating a large rubble mound. The small bumps (highs) on the road behind the Gulf-front buildings in the pre-Ivan image are vehicles captured by the airborne laser mapping system. The pre-Ivan topography was measured with USACE Joint Airborne Lidar Bathymetry Technical Center of Excellence - CHARTS lidar system. The post-Ivan topography was measured with NASA 's EAARL .
Before and after Ivan photographs of the area within the rectangle drawn on the lidar images. These are U.S. Geological Survey photographs. [larger version ]
