Transcript: Children who are most at risk for school failure need and benefit the most from high quality early learning experiences. Tragically, they are the least like to have access to programs providing these experiences. The good news is, we know what works. We know what young children need before they enter kindergarten and Early Reading First will help communities put in place programs that work. President Bush and I are committed to help improve early learning programs for our youngest children. So today, we are awarding thirty grants totaling more than seventy-two million dollars to support local efforts to improve the language and pre-reading skills of young children as part of the President's early reading program. These grants will help our communities to buy materials and train teachers, to equip our children with the skills they need to succeed in school.
