Fiery Dawn is a compelling story of a Civil War cavalry battle fought during the Carolinas Campaign in the waning days of the war. Though technically a draw, the battle was a missed opportunity for the Confederates and a near catastrophe for the Union. Drawing from recent archeological work as well as historical accounts, the authors weave an engaging tale of intrigue that led to the events of the battle. We learn about the fascinating personalities of major Civil War characters such as J.E.B. Stuart, William Tecumseh Sherman, "Fighting Joe" Wheeler, Wade Hampton, Hugh Judson Kilpatrick, and many others. We learn how Kilpatrick's reputation as a ladies man has affected the folklore associated with the battle.
