William C. Brumfield's photographs are protected by copyright.
Access: Permitted; subject to P&P policy on serving
originals which requires the use of digital surrogates in preference
to the original photographs.
Reproduction (photocopying, hand-held camera copying,
photoduplication and other forms of copying allowed by "fair
use"): Permitted;
subject to P&P policy on copying which prohibits photocopying of the
original photographs in the collection.
Publication and other forms of distribution: Restricted.
Mr. Brumfield's photographs are protected by copyright. Works created
after January 1, 1978 are usually protected for the author/creator/copyright
holder's life plus 70 years. However, in providing photographs for the
Library's collections Mr. Brumfield has stipulated that he is reserving
his copyright for fifteen years from the date of each gift (the collection
is being given in several installments). As the first installment was
given in October 1999, the earliest any images from the collection would
be out of copyright is October 2014. While the collection is under copyright,
photographs may not be published without Mr. Brumfield's permission. (See
P&P Collection Files.) Privacy and publicity rights may also apply. The
