cultural foundations of the movement to conserve and protect
America's natural heritage through books, pamphlets, government
documents, manuscripts, prints, photographs, and motion
picture footage drawn from the collections of the Library
of Congress. It includes twelve
conservation-related proclamations issued by President
William McKinley.
The Frederick Douglass Papers at the Library of Congress
This collection presents the papers of the nineteenth-century
African-American abolitionist who escaped from slavery
and then risked his own freedom by becoming an outspoken
antislavery lecturer, writer, and publisher. The Douglass
papers contain the full text of an 1888
speech on tariff legislation delivered by McKinley
while serving in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Historic
American Sheet Music, 1850-1920
This collection presents 3,042 pieces of sheet music drawn
from the Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections
Library at Duke University, including a song performed
at McKinley's
funeral.

Do Solemnly Swear...": Presidential Inaugurations
This collection contains approximately 400 items relating
to presidential inaugurations, including McKinley's first
inauguration in 1897 and his second
inauguration in 1901. In addition, this collection
includes video
presentations by Marvin Kranz, former historical
specialist in the Manuscript Division of the Library of
Congress, discussing McKinley's first and second inaugurations
Inventing Entertainment: the Early Motion Pictures and Sound
Recordings of the Edison Companies
The collections in the Library of Congress's Motion Picture,
Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division contain an extraordinary
range of the surviving products of Edison's entertainment
inventions and industries. This site features 341 motion
pictures, including fifteen
films related to McKinley's presidency and assassination.
The Last Days of a President: Films of McKinley and the Pan-American Exposition, 1901
The twenty-eight films of this collection are actuality
motion pictures from the Paper Print Collection of the
Library of Congress. They include footage of President
William McKinley at his second inauguration; of the Pan-American
Exposition in Buffalo, New York; of President McKinley
at the Pan-American Exposition; and of President McKinley's
funeral.
